1. The Livmore

BEFORE/AFTER: The Livmore’s spacious 5th-floor outdoor terrace.

The Livmore caters to those who want the condo lifestyle with outdoor spaces to relax and enjoy. Its 5th floor includes a game room, theater, outdoor dog area, fitness area, and a spacious outdoor terrace overlooking the streets of Toronto. Helping the Livmore residents make the most out of their outdoors, LandArt Design specified retractable shade structures for added weather protection. 2. The Graham Rooftop

Perched atop the luxury hotel, The Graham Georgetown, is an impressive bar and lounge with sweeping views of historic Georgetown – The Graham Rooftop. Looking to maximize business whether sun or shine, management built a large black pergola to match the art deco style and contacted ShadeFX for the coverage they desired. Three retractable roofs were installed resulting in 760 sq. ft. of weather protection on the popular rooftop bar.

3. The Front Yard at Ellis Island

BEFORE/AFTER: The Front Yard at Ellis Island Hotel, Casino, and Brewery.

After being in business for over five decades, the family decided to give Ellis Island a facelift and expand its footprint. Its latest edition, The Front Yard, is a two-story indoor/outdoor venue with a premium bar and full-service restaurant. The definitive feature in the space is its impressive barrel-vaulted ceiling. Working with partners KALB Industries, ShadeFX manufactured and installed twelve arched canopies covering the over 3,000 sq. ft. ceiling. With a capacity of over 300, each customer is treated to clear open skies and protected from occasional showers, with a push of a button.

4. The Beach House Restaurant

West Vancouver’s most iconic restaurant, Beach House, reopened after major renovations in November 2019. Its new interior is bright and open with direct views of the seaside. However, it’s the restaurant’s expansive patio that can lay claim to the best scenery in ‘West Van’. Protected by a large white timber pergola and versatile retractable roofs, the duo is perfect for those rainy or extremely sunny days. Commercial-grade heaters were installed below, providing much-need heat to the 1,000 sq ft patio on cooler days.

5. Ten at Clarendon

Ten at Clarendon in Arlington, VA, offers innovative spaces, creative amenities, and an emphasis on sustainability and technology. The new luxury apartment community is designed with a unique rooftop venue protected by custom structures and versatile retractable shades. ShadeFX customized and installed six structures, providing nearly 1,500 sq. ft. of coverage. The modern shade solution fits right in with the modern apartment, giving its tenants the best of both worlds, inside and out.

6. RED Madison

RED Madison in Wisconsin has a menu that goes far beyond sushi. With a delectable menu inspired by modern cuisine, the rising hot spot desperately needed to expand its accommodation. Turning to their sights to the available courtyard, management invested in an outdoor shade structure to complete their vision. The sleek design, minimalistic approach, and easy-to-clean combo was the perfect solution to protect customers from sun and rain. The covered outdoor seating provides an additional 60 seats with an excellent atmosphere during sunny rays or rainy days.

7. Joia on Main

BEFORE/AFTER: Outdoor patio at Joia on Main.

Joia on Main benefits from a spacious outdoor patio overlooking the Newmarket Riverwalk Commons. With a few key additions, the outdoor dining space has transformed into a summer hotspot and a warm winter hub. ShadeFX customized and installed three large structures and retractable roofs, providing over 1,000 sq. ft. of sun and rain protection. The waterproof and fire-retardant fabric allows for heaters to be mounted on the structure, keeping patrons warm during the cool evenings.

8. The Crooked Cue

BEFORE/AFTER: The Crooked Cue’s pop-up patio.

When patio season is in full bloom, The Crooked Cue in Mississauga sets up their pop-up patio. Upgrading from the limited coverage of a rollout awning, two custom black structures with retractable roofs are installed at the beginning of each season. The addition of heaters allows for the restaurant to extend outdoor dining as long as possible. Once October hits, the crew is legally required to remove the structures which can then be re-installed the following spring.

9. Craft Beer Market, Kelowna

BEFORE/AFTER: Craft Beer Market rooftop patio in Kelowna.

Located in the old Paramount Theatre on Bernard Avenue, Craft Beer Market in Kelowna offers three floors of craft beer goodness. The rooftop on the third floor offers patrons magnificent views of Lake Okanagan and the City park. It can accommodate around 200 customers and is outfitted with shuffleboards, heaters, and ShadeFX’s retractable roofs. The three-season rooftop patio is fully equipped with 1,700 sq. ft. of sun and rain protection for their beer enthusiasts.

10. Al Johnson’s Stabbur Beer Garden

The restaurant with goats on the roof added a modern convenience to its beer garden after 59 years of devout Swedish tradition. Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant & Butik reached out to ShadeFX for the ultimate sun and rain protection. A 6-bay aluminum structure with retractable roofs and gutters were customized and installed, covering the large 2,200 sq. ft. patio. Featuring a unique bar with beer pulls in the walls, the Stabbur is ready to serve regardless of hot weather or rainy days.
