Retractable Shades Customized to Fit Irregular Pergolas

Who do you call when you build a pergola that isn’t perfectly square or rectangular and now require a retractable shade? Well, ShadeFX of course.

To emphasize, ShadeFX’s patented single-track system has benefits that no dual track or cable system can replicate. As a matter of fact, this capability is what further sets us apart from a retractable awning or big box store purchase. With the track located in the middle of the canopy, ShadeFX can contour the shade through a series of techniques to ensure a perfect fit regardless of pergola shape.

For California homeowner, Sharen Bond, a part of her outdoor project involved replacing a deck. The raised surface included an attached pergola, outdoor kitchen, elevated bistro seating, and a modern fire pit.

The attached pergola runs 30’ alongside the house. Although not obvious from the photo, the pergola tapers from a 10’ projection to a 6’ projection as it travels the length of the deck, resulting in a convex quadrilateral shape.

The ShadeFX solution? Working alongside a Product Specialist, ShadeFX broke the coverage into two canopies with tapered cuts. As seen below, the two canopies are cut to flawlessly fit the existing structures, providing maximum coverage.

Each Sunbrella white canopy manually extends to the narrower point of the structure. Moreover, they utilize cable stabilizers to help deflect rain away from the home, onto the landscape below.

“As part of a deck replacement project, I wanted a deck cover that fit the architecture of the home without blocking out the sun. After a lot of research, I decided on ShadeFX canopies as their product looked to be exactly what I wanted without looking commercial. Their knowledge, communication and support through the entire process was amazing. I couldn’t be happier with the end result.”

In the event that the structure is built to the odd shape of your deck or if the project is a simple DIY that went south, ShadeFX will customize the canopy to fit within 1/8”.
