Projects around the house can take weeks, months, or even years to complete. With proper planning and designing, homeowners want to ensure their investment will be something they can continue to enjoy and look back on without any doubts.

For these homeowners in Seattle, their outdoor project started back in 2015 with the idea of an attached pergola and retractable shades. With a beautiful view of the Olympic mountains, it was paramount that the sightline was not obstructed.

A second precaution is the home’s location in a windy area. The homeowners’ concern was the stability of the shades under gusty conditions. The Bringgolds quickly learned that ShadeFX canopies are a fully framed system and utilize wings that spread out from the drive beam support points. The addition of stabilizers on both sides of the system prevents the canopies from recklessly flapping in the wind.

After a couple years of correspondence, the homeowners were ready to place an order. ShadeFX customized three motorized retractable shades to cover the nearly 300 sq. ft. area. Each canopy has one extra wing to reduce the canopy drop, allowing the shade to be hidden within the beams when retracted. ‘Kissing canopies’ are deployed on the larger pergola. The high-performance waterproof fabric is an Ennis Terra Cotta, complementing the red hues on the wooden pergola.

“Our ShadeFX canopies are terrific and have really transformed our home. With the new shades installed we spend so much more time out back now. We are outside enjoying our patio area any time during the day or night.

You and your crew have been great. Very helpful throughout the entire process.

Thank you for a great product.”
