Sitting on the edge of San Pedro Mountain, this attached pergola offers sweeping views of the San Rafael Bay. In particular, the National Wildlife Refuge of the Marin Islands and the Richmond – San Rafael Bridge.

For views modestly comparable, visitors and locals take caution of the weather and brave a strenuous climb to the top of San Pedro. On the clearest days, the impressive backdrop is worth the venture. However, for these homeowners, this view is available 365 days a year from the back porch.

The McCaws worked closely with a local contractor to customize their attached pergola. While trying not to obstruct the stunning views and allowing their own design to shine through, they chose ShadeFX to provide the coverage they desired.

“We recently worked with a local builder and ShadeFX to build a new pergola and retractable shade. This way we were able to get the pergola design, shade style and fabric we wanted. We love it. Thanks for all your help.”

Rather than having one large covering, the McCaws selected two 10’x12’ manual retractable shades. To accommodate their windows and sliding glass door when the canopies are retracted, extra wings were added to each canopy. This allowed the ‘canopy drop’ to not block any of their Californian scenery or for the McCaws to be walking into the Sunbrella Taupe fabric when going outdoors. This color paired flawlessly with the couple’s existing dark wooden pergola.

At last, with the pull of a detachable handle and a glide across the track, the McCaws are always prepared to enjoy their peaceful space. Their outdoor living space is a great way to start those sunshine filled days or wind down on starry evenings.
