This is a tenth floor condominium terrace in downtown Toronto. Two canopies each measuring 16X20 cover the common area outside the pool. To ensure rain goes away from the wall, even on windy days, the canopy is steeply sloped. The first and last rafters are double deep (2X8 under the 2X8) to countersink the canopy in side the perimeter frame of the pergola.
There is a sensor to retract the canopies if wind speeds exceed approximately 30 mph (laterally). However, the prevailing winds are from the northwest which is the side of the pool facility wall. So the pergola is covering an area that is wind protected for the majority of the seasons.
