This video was shot in Jan 2008 and shows the outriggers installing under the canopy wings. In April, 2008 this was improved so that the outriggers install above the canopy wings. This better facilitates rain runoff as the canopy wings can bend down to shed water faster in downpours and are better contained for resistance to updrafts.

ShadeFX is a retractable canopy system designed to attach to a frame like a pergola. It can handle high winds because the canopy does not rely on tension for support. It is supported by structural 'wings' that give it strength equivalent to a permanently framed canopy. This is on the 10th floor terrace of a condominium in downtown Toronto.

Here is a 20' long drive system with a 10' long canopy. The trailing end of the canopy has a friction brake that keeps the canopy taut wherever you stop it. This is an ideal solution for those with a large pergola/deck to be covered, but with more than one area of use. For example, a kitchen at one end, a dining table in the middle and a hot tub at the other end. This allows the homeowner to have shade wherever it is needed at a fraction of the price of an entire coverage canopy. It also can be more desirable to have a 'shade island' where you need it, rather than a large fully shaded area that may be too dark when covering such a large area.

Heavy winds off the lake are easily managed by the ShadeFX outriggers which are located on the top face of the canopy wings.
